Integration & Commissioning of Wireless Sites

Project
As the technology landscape continues to evolve with high-speed innovations like 5G NR, the need for meticulous optic fibre loss, SFP TX and RX level verification, and proficient mobile call testing have gained prominence.
This project sought to fortify the robustness of fibre-based technologies through comprehensive testing and commissioning processes. It looked to enhance the proficiency of installation and engineering personnel, emphasizing the significance of these tests for the deployment of advanced technologies such as 5G.
Delving into the vital aspects of Integration & Commissioning, this project focused on critical components such as testing optic fibre pairs within a multi-fibre Hybrid Feeder cable for the Telstra Mobiles network, undertaking optic testing of DWDM Fronthaul and CPRI fibre links between the Baseband Main Unit and Radio site Remote Radio Units.
The primary focus of this project was to perform mandatory tests on newly installed hybrid feeder and RRU/AIR systems, along with system augmentation and upgrades at Macro, IBC, and Small Cell sites. Additionally, it sought to accomplish the proficient deployment of 5G Small Cell equipment and conduct effective mobile call testing using the Blackbird tool.
Solution
The project involved testing optic fibre pairs in various systems, including 4G and 5G, with a focus on call testing. The approach consisted of varied testing methodologies, dependent on the site's classification as D-RAN (Distributed RAN) or C-RAN (Centralised RAN), considering C-RAN necessitates an extra fibre-based 10Gbs (or 25Gbs) DWDM connection to a Baseband Hotel.
Implementing rigorous testing and verification protocols, the project focussed on multiple facets, including hybrid feeder and RRU/AIR systems and system augmentation and upgrades. It placed a high emphasis on the successful deployment of 5G Small Cell equipment and ensures the seamless operation of mobile call testing through the Blackbird tool.
Results
The project's successful implementation enabled the optimal operation of optic fibre pairs, facilitating the deployment of advanced technologies like 5G. The inclusion of mobile call testing using Blackbird enhanced network service quality, improved customer satisfaction, and bolstered the company's standing in the telecommunications sector.
The project underscores the importance of thorough optic fibre testing (OTDR), effective mobile call testing using Blackbird, and successful 5G deployment.
The dedication to maintaining high testing standards and the capability to manage advanced technology deployment reflects the company's commitment to offering exceptional service, setting a precedent for future integration and commissioning projects.
